JACKSON COUNTY
SPEEDWAY
Vohringer,
Meyer and Wilson New Faces in Victory Lane at JCS by Ed Potter MAQUOKETA, Ia (July 17, 2010) - On a nice and
warm evening for auto racing at Jackson County Speedway Saturday it was Coca
Cola Fan appreciation night and you could get a Coke and a hot dog for just two
dollars. Plus Coca Cola supplied all the trophies and a trophy
presenter. A touch of water on the racing surface during intermission
made for a fast smooth race track for the features. Three new drivers won
their features including one driver’s first ever feature win. The 4-Stock feature ran start to finish
without a single caution. Third place starter, young Lane Vohringer
snatched the lead on lap one with first heat winner Billy Veach hot on his
tail. Unfortunately for Veach he was forced to retire about mid-race with
mechanical woes. At lap six second heat winner, Jeremy Campbell moved
into second bringing eleventh place starter, Scott Booth with him. As
these two ran side by side, Vohringer sailed along out front. Vohringer
went on for his first ever feature win. Booth edged Campbell out for
second. Rob Harding Sr was fourth with Jake Ellithorpe fifth. First heat winner, Andy Wagener jumped into
the early lead of the Hobby Stock feature and was soon holding off the
challenges of second heat winner, Kile Vohringer. Only one caution flew
in this twelve lapper, but it wasn’t going to slow Wagener down. At lap
nine Vohringer moved by Wagener bringing Sheldon Hunter with him. Hunter
took over on lap ten and went on for his second win of the year. Vohringer
was second with Cameron Sorgenfrey third and tenth place starter, Shawn Flagel
fourth. Wagener held on for fifth. Kelly Meyer has had some pretty rotten luck
this season in the IMCA Modified division, but things finally changed this week.
Meyer won the second heat and started on the front row of the feature along
side of first heat winner, Steve Olson. Meyer jumped into the lead and
never looked back as he went on for his first feature win of the year.
The car Kelly won in is eighteen years old and has won at least one feature in
every one of those eighteen years. Matt Wilson was second with eleventh
place starter, Dan Klatt third. Matt Irwin took fourth with Marty
Scheckel fifth. Jed Holland went out front of the Street
Stock feature and soon had a battle between Joe Bonney and Dan Mohr going on
right behind him. At lap five Bonney moved out front and the battle for
second became Holland and Mohr. Bonney went on for his third win of the
season with Holland second and Mohr third. Chip Kohl was fourth with
Shane Oberbreckling fifth. The heat wins went to Bonney and Jon Poll. After some tough luck last week Thad Wilson
used his pole starting spot in the Gade Racing Engines/Shirts ‘n’ Stuff Pro
Modified feature to lead flag to flag for his first Jackson County Speedway win
this season. Doug Crampton was a strong second with heat winner, Bob
Dominacki taking third. Jake Bowman and Joe Ross rounded out the top five. After last week’s “Big One” in the B & D
Pit stop IMCA Late Model division this week the feature ran with only two minor
cautions. Third place starter, Joe Zrostlik took the early lead and the
first caution fell at lap six. On the restart Terry Neal moved out front
with Zrostlik and Ray Guss Jr in pursuit. Four laps later the only other
caution came out but this wasn’t gong to slow Neal down. On the restart
it was still Neal, Zrostlik and Guss. Guss moved by Zrostlik on lap
eighteen, but nobody was going to catch Neal as he went on for his fourth trip
to victory lane this year. Guss was second with Zrostlik holding on for
third. Doug Nigh took fourth over Bryan Klein’s fifth. The heats
went to Neal and Ryan Duhme. Don’t forget this coming Saturday will be the fourth annual running of the Dusty Kay Memorial Race. This race is for the 4-Stock and will pay five hundred dollars to win the thirteen lap feature. A total of thirteen hundred dollars in extra prize money has been added to the 4-Stock pay off. All other divisions will also be running with the thirteenth place finisher in every feature getting extra money. A hard charger prize will also be awarded in all divisions. 4-Stocks will draw and re-draw, all other classes will start normally. Results 4- Stock Heat one: 1.
