Dominacki captures Cheater Race at Davenport
by Mike McGuire
DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 14, 2012) – Friday was a
night of high speed and big –time crashes as the Davenport Speedway hosted its
first-ever Night of Destruction. Cheater Races were held for the modifieds,
street stocks, and 4-stocks. The stock car racing action was followed by the collision–fest
known as the Trailer Race.
Jeremy Marquette had the fastest Street Stock car all
season at Davenport. With some extra sheet metal and plexi-glass, he was even
faster. Marquette blistered the field on his way to the checkered flag. Jeremy
started sixth and was well into the lead by lap three.
Once Marquette was in the lead, the battle was for
second. Mitch Schmitz emerged from the pack for second, with Dwaine Hasson
finishing third. Tony VonDresky took fourth and Rob Henry fifth.
The ‘Dominator’ Bob Dominacki showed once again why he
is the king of the Cheater Races. Dominacki grabbed the lead on lap two of the
modified feature and never looked back. By the time the checkers fell, Bob had
lapped all but the second and third place cars.
Justin Veloz had a good run to finish second, with
Brian Bushong third. Brad Tyler was the first of the lap down cars in fourth,
while Bruce Fosdyck Sr. finished fifth.
Aaron Hitt added a Cheater Race victory to his growing
list of accomplishments in the 4-Stock class this year. Hitt jumped out to the
lead on lap one, but had to hold off a charging Andy Wagener to take the win.
Wagener, who had to recover from a first lap incident, finished a strong
second. Andy Loy, Kyle Rhoads, and Zach Dahl completed the top five.
Cars, trucks, and vans pulling trailers of all shapes
and sizes went all out for the enthusiastic crowd in the Trailer Race. When the
carnage was over, Marty Smith was the winner. Ray Brown won the fan vote for
the best decorated entry, for his “Support the Troops” scheme.
Racing at the Davenport Speedway, continues next
Saturday night (Sept. 22) with the running of the All-Star Classic. The event
will be held on the half-mile oval and features the season finale of the Deery
Brothers Summer Series. Also racing will be IMCA-style Modifieds, Street
Stocks, and 4-Stocks.

Griffin takes two Davenport Street Stock wins by Mike McGuire (July 20, 2012) With two make-up features, a full racing program, and the Midwest Jalopies, it surely was a full night of racing at the Davenport Speedway. The evening started with the Street Stock make-up feature from June 29th. The race restarted with four laps complete and Scott Griffin leading the way. Griffin would lead the remaining laps and take his first victory of the year. It would not be his last.Jeremy Marquette got close to the leader, but would have to settle for second. Keith Blum ran a strong third, with Joe Bonney fourth and Josh Starr fifth. The IMCA Late Model make-up feature was next. Davenport racer Jeff Stevens used the outside pole and a still tacky track to his advantage as he led all 25 laps for the win. Ray Guss Jr., came from the eighth starting spot to finish second. Joe Ross finished third, just ahead of Stephan Kammerer and Andy Nezworski. When it came to this Friday’s racing program, each class seemed to have a dominant car. In the EMS IMCA Modifieds, it was ‘the Dominator’ Bob Dominacki. Bob started seventh, and had the lead by the end of lap two. Dominacki held the top spot through five cautions and all the way to the checkers.A dandy battle for second eventually went to Mitch Morris, over Thad Wilson. Brian Bushong ran in the top five all race long and finished fourth. Doug Crampton rounded out the top five. The Roto-Rooter 4 Stock main saw Mitch Bielenberg pick up his third feature win of the point season. Bielenberg grabbed the lead from Kyle Rhoads on lap three, en route to the win. Jake Ellithorpe and Ricky Kay both started in the fourth row and would finish second and third respectively. Gage Neal finished fourth with Aaron Hitt completing the first five. Scott Griffin took up where he left off in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Griffin started third, but would lead all fifteen laps for his second feature win of the night. Emily Gade finished second, a strightaway behind Griffin. Jeremy Marquette took third, with Dwaine Hasson fourth, and Keith Blum fifth. The final race of the evening was the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model main. Doug Nigh jumped to the early lead from the pole. After a lap nine restart, Ray Guss Jr. found enough grip on the high side to take the lead away from Nigh. That grip went away quickly and Nigh regained the lead on lap 16. The ‘Maquoketa Missile’ would lead the rest of the way to the checkers, for his first win of the year at Davenport. Guss held on for second, with Mike Murphy Jr. third. Matt Ryan took fourth, with Mike Zemo Jr. fifth. The Midwest Jalopies made their final Davenport Speedway appearance of the 2012 season. Doug Picray won the feature. Bob Mingst finished second, with Dennis Blunt third. The Davenport Speedway will be on hiatus for the next two Fridays, due to the Mississippi Valley Fair. Stock car racing action returns to the quarter-mile dirt oval on Friday August 10th, with the main attraction being the 4-Stock 50, paying $2,000 to the winner.

Marquette claims Back Row Challenge money at Davenport
by Mike McGuire
DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 22, 2012) – Friday was Casey’s General Store Mid-Season Championships at the Davenport Speedway. The evening’s racing program featured a draw/redraw format and a Back Row Challenge for the current point leader in each division. Two of the four point leaders, Jeremy Marquette and Kelly Meyer, accepted the challenge and decided to start last in the feature for a chance to win extra money.
The gamble paid off for Koehler Electric Street Stock point leader Jeremy Marquette. Marquette started the 15-lap main in 15th position and had moved up to third by the end of the fourth lap. He then joined a spirited battle for the lead between Emily Gade and Scott Griffin.
Griffin would take the lead form Gade on lap eight, only to have it taken away by a caution flag. Following the restart, Griffin would again pass Gade for the lead. It was a lead he would have for only one lap.
Marquette zipped past Griffin for the lead and would cruise to the win, and the Back Row Challenge money. Griffin would hold for second with Gade crossing the stripe in third. Keith Blum and Phil Anderson closed out the top five.
Kelly Meyer also took the Back Row Challenge in the 20-lap EMS IMCA Modified feature. Matt Werner jumped out to the early race lead and held the top spot to lap eight. Thad Wilson started ninth and used the bottom of the racetrack to take the lead on lap nine.
Wilson and Bob Dominacki would then battle for lead for several laps, before Dominacki took the point on lap 16. Dominacki went on to take his first point win of the season, while Wilson clipped an infield tire in the final corner and finished 12th. Werner finished second, ahead of Tony VonDresky. Tim Arp started 15th and finished fourth, with Kelly Meyer coming from the tail to take fifth.
Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model point leader, Mike Murphy Jr., declined the Back Row Challenge and it proved to be a good decision, as he collected his third feature win of the season. Murphy started the 25-lap, caution-free main in the front row, on the outside of Matt Ryan. But it was Ryan that shot out to the early lead. Ryan was under constant attack by Murphy and Ray Guss Jr., but held the lead until lap 11.
Murphy used a higher line to get by Ryan, but couldn’t shake Guss. Guss would take the lead on lap 17, with Murphy coming back to the point on lap 21. Murphy and Guss would finish one-two, with Stephan Kammerer taking third. Matt Ryan held on for fourth, with Nate Bueseling fifth.
Roto-Rooter 4 Stock leader, Aaron Hitt declined the challenge and elected to start second. Pole sitter Tristin Clark led lap one with Hitt grabbing the lead on lap two. Tenth place starter Jake Ellithorpe forced his way into the lead on lap seven. Twenty-first place starter, Mitch Bielenberg, flew through the field and would get to Ellithorpe’s rear bumper, but would go no further.
Ellithorpe took his third win of the year, while Bielenberg settled for second. Ricky Kay finished third, with Gage Neal and Hitt rounding out the top five.
Racing returns to the Davenport Speedway next Friday, June 29th for the second Kid’s Night of the season.

by Mike McGuire
DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 1, 2012) – Milo Veloz Jr. came on strong in the second half of the IMCA Modified Madness 50, scoring the victory and the $2,000 top prize. The 50-lap main event capped a great night of racing at the Davenport Speedway on Kile Motorsports night.
Veloz started the feature in the 12th position and had moved up to third by the midway point of the race. The Colona, Illinois racer would take the lead from Gilman, Iowa’s Richie Gustin on lap 34, en route to the victory.
Gustin, led laps ten through thirty-three and finished a strong second, after starting on the outside pole.
Brad Dierks beat out Dan Chapman for a third place finish, with early race leader Bob Dominacki, rounding out the top five. Dominacki, Gustin, Scott Hogan, and Darin Duffy won the four IMCA Modified heat races. Chapman and J.D. Auringer won the two semi-features. Thirty-six modifieds were on hand for the event.
Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model point leader, Mike Murphy Jr. returned to victory lane. Murphy took the lead on lap 18 of the 25-lap main. Bart Miller, Gary Webb, Chuck Hanna, and Marty Diercks each took a turn at the top spot, before Murphy grabbed the lead.
Diercks would hang on for second with Colby Springsteen third in his first points race at Davenport this season. Hanna finished in the fourth spot and Justin Kay completed the top five.
Murphy, Marty Diercks, and Spencer Diercks won late model heats.
Jeremy Marquette also chalked up his second feature win of the season in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Marquette snatched the lead from Emily Gade on lap ten and drove to the win. Emily would hang on for second, with Josh Neal earning a hard fought third. Jerry Pratt and Chip Kohl were fourth and fifth respectively.
Mitch Bielenberg was the third repeat feature winner of the night. Mitch zipped into the lead after a lap four yellow. DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 25, 2012) – The IMCA Modified Madness 50 at the Davenport Speedway, has been postponed due to rain. The event has been rescheduled for next Friday, June 1st.
It was déjà vu, all over again. A light, but steady rain started falling at the Davenport Speedway just before 6p.m. Just like last year’s IMCA Modified shootout, the rain was just enough to wash out tonight’s racing program.
Before the event was rained out, an excellent field of racecars were on hand for the $2,000-to-win event. Well over thirty modifieds had already checked into the pit area.
For more information on DRT TRAK Racing events, visit our website at www.drttrak.com, or call (563) 652-5302. DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 18, 2012) – Racing veteran Leroy Brenner showed that he still has what it takes to get to victory lane as he scored a nail-biter of a win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Brenner and Joe Ross of Thomson, Illinois, raced side by side for nearly all of the 25 lap main which was slowed only once by caution. The lead duo swapped the lead seven times over the course of the race, before Brenner finally took the win.
Mike Murphy Jr. continued to build on his late model point lead with a third place finish. Nate Beuseling took fourth, just ahead of Ray Guss Jr., in fifth.
Late model heat wins went to Guss, Stephan Kammerer, and Marty Diercks.
John Ahlers captured his first feature win of the season in the EMS IMCA Modified division. Todd Dykema scored his best finish of the season in second, with Brian Webb coming home in third. Dean McGee and Doug Crampton rounded out the top five.
Recent high school graduate, Emily Gade chalked up one in the win column in the Koehler Electric Street Stocks. Emily used a good starting spot to top street stock point leader Jeremy Marquette for the win. Chip Kohl, Cary Brown, and Keith Blum were third through fifth respectively.
In Roto-Rooter 4-Stock action, Jake Ellithorpe took the checkers. The victory was Jake’s first at Davenport this year. Aaron Hitt finished second for the second straight week. Steven Phillips was third with Gage Neal fourth, and Steve Boyle fifth.
Through the first three point races of the 2012 season at the Davenport Speedway, there have not been any repeat winners in any of the four weekly classes.
Friday was School’s Out- Kid’s Night with a special appearance eby the Midwest Jalopies. More than a dozen coupes were on hand for a little racing nostalgia. Rodney Haack took the feature win with Tim Bader and Bob Mingst completing the top three.
Next Friday night at the Davenport Speedway will be the IMCA Modified Madness 50. A fifty lap feature for the open wheel stock cars, that will pay $2,000 to the winner. The other three classes will be racing for weekly points.
